Fabulous Fabrics and Textiles

If you are a collector of fabrics and textiles, you know that there are some that not only never go out of style, but become even more coveted and collectible with time. I’ve always been a fan of re-purposing vintage textiles, and am drawn to products that are created with them. An apron, trimmed with a tattered hankie, awaits a few finishing touches in my sewing room.Vintage needlepoints, rescued, revived and trimmed with gorgeous new silks and trims. The marriage of old, rich in history, and new luxurious fabrics, exquisite!

I’m a fabric and textile collector at heart. I love old fabrics, new fabrics, vintage tablecloths that are bright and newly starched, faded linens and curtain panels that speak to my heart and grow more beautiful with time. Sure, the colors may fade, but each piece shines bright with the memory of the hands that created and cared for them. A beautiful antique quilt, casually draped over my chair in the sitting room, serves as a backdrop for my cozy decor. It also allows me to enjoy a part of my collection every day. One day I hope to have stacks and stacks of colorful antique quilts filling cupboards and armoires, waiting to be lovingly folded over the foot of a guests bed on a chilly winter night.

On my bed, a pale yellow, vintage chenille spread, still plush, soft and inviting. I’ve always been partial to vintage chenille bedspreads. They were so intertwined with my childhood memories of summers on Cape Cod. Chenille was the quintessential “cottage bedroom decor.” Fabulous fabrics and textiles will work in almost any décor.
Monogrammed pillow cases edged with a bit of tatting - perhaps bearing your own initials or a great-grandmother's - grace our beds. A hand embroidered dresser scarf, atop an antique bureau in its rightful glory. Some of the textiles and fabrics that we collect are not old and rich in memories, but give a feel of yesteryear with a crisp new look. Start your own collection of fabulous fabrics and textiles this Friday at Forget Me Not Dreams and the boutiques of Make Mine Pink.

The Kitchen Cupboard

For as long as I can remember, the kitchen has been the heart of our home. I can still see the very full cupboards in both my grandmother’s and my mother’s kitchen.

The dining room china cabinet held the very best dinnerware that was used for special occasions, but the kitchen cupboards were always like a treasure hunt. You never knew what you might find tucked inside. Some pieces useful, some pretty, some very mysterious. Miss-matched china cups, some missing their saucer, just waiting to be used for special desserts. It was always just a little more fun to eat my grandmother’s tapioca or my mom’s pudding from a fancy cup.

The cupboard that held the slightly worn, tin canisters, was one that brings back some of the very best memories. I remember cookies being baked for school parties, and pies and desserts for special holidays. All of us kids gathered in the kitchen to watch the magic, each vying for the honor of scraping the batter bowl, or spoon and awaiting our part in this magical play. Tucked in this same cabinet, sugar sprinkles waiting for our little hands to add the finishing touches. There were so many memories made from what our kitchen cupboards held. Some that shape us as mothers and grandmothers. If you’d like to take a walk down memory lane, some of these very same treasures can be found at Forget Me Not Dreams and in the boutiques at Make Mine Pink.

Simply Pink

Everywhere you look these days, pink is popping up in home decor and fashion. The color once reserved for baby nurseries, and little girl's dresses is now being incorporated into the decor of homes everywhere. Sometimes in soft summer hues and at other times, bright and bold, making a statement that is impossible to ignore. Some of us love "all things pink", and fill every corner and space with this fun color. Furniture, curtains, and pink accessories grace our homes and closets. Others' craving for pink is satisfied with just a bit of a favorite shade here and there. You may find a pale pink quilt draped across a white chair, an antique pink chair against a warm white backdrop, or perhaps a clear crystal vase filled with vibrant cut flowers in shades of pink.

Mixing shades of pink makes a room feminine and chic, but a single pink accent in an all white room, commands just as much attention. Even when subtle, pink catches the eye wherever it's used. It’s fun, it’s feminine and it’s flirty. Pink is the color that fits in with any theme - from girly to chic, from romantic to modern. Store windows are filled with eye popping pink accessories and furnishings. Designers are using extravagant pink fabrics or creating just a few pink touches in their designs. Websites are popping up everywhere, offering pink accessories for home and fashion.

What is it about pink that makes us love it so much? It's the color of princesses and fairy tales, wedding bouquets and ballet slippers. It can be whimsical or soft and feminine. In brighter shades, it reflects a bold zest for life. It's a reminder of favorite childhood memories and future dreams. Whether you surround yourself with pink or just like keep a special pink reminder nearby you'll find something special on Friday in our MMPink category and at Make Mine Pink.

Farm Chicks Favorite Vendor Displays

Honestly I didn't have much time to get out of the booth and wander around. I know there was some wonderful booths in the other bays, but I just didn't get over there much. These two booths I thought were fantastic. Kristin of Sophias was across for us. Her booth looked fabulous and wow did she ever sell a ton! Congratulations Kristin!

I can't find my vendor list so I don't even know who to give credit to for this booth. (I'll keep looking) It was located in the front of the middle bay near the Milk Truck! Anyway...isn't it cool! She focused on a wedding theme! Too cute! Our blog giveaway ends on Monday so be sure and enter with a comment!

More display pics tomorrow!

Farm Chicks~ The Trip Back Home

Yesterday was the big travel day back home. We were just to exhausted to make it all the way on Monday. After dealing with the truck (long story) and stopping at the bank to deposit our earnings...it was late in the day. We were only a half hour from Coeur d'Alene and decided to have lunch together before the rest of our group traveled on to Montana!
This is the Coeur d'Alene Resort. I've never stayed there, but it's a gorgeous building!
Karen and I in front of the Moose statue on Main Street!

We made it as far as Yakima WA and decided to crash for the night. Tuesday we wound our way home through every kind of terrain possible.
My favorite was the vast farmlands though. Here you can see a tiny bit of Mount Adams in the background of the beautiful valley. Just gorgeous!
Be sure and enter our Farm Chicks Blog Giveaway. Check back a couple of days for all the details. In the next few days we'll share more Farm Chicks pics and end with our Giveaway winner on Monday!

Farm Chicks...Rain Chicks!

Today was move in/set up day at Farm Chicks which is allot of work, but we always manage to make it fun! But holy cow....it was pouring down buckets of rain while we were unloading the truck! Thankfully the walkway into the building was covered, but by the time you walked from the truck to the walkway...you were drenched!

Our staging at home helped us get our props and base pieces in place so that was good. We had to wait and wait to put up our back wall while they worked on our phone line and set out the power boxes. The Jeopardy theme song was running through my head... It was a bit frustrating to loose precious time!

We have one booth less than last year, so it feels pretty squishy. But we are excited and ready for the masses tomorrow! Farm Chicks is such a fun show!

Here is a peek at a new product for us....Pocket pillows! \Tomorrow we'll be doing a little of our own shopping! We are going to do a Farm Chicks Blog Giveaway! The prize will be revealed tomorrow night, but it will be something totally fun and Farm Chick related! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on any day while we are here at Farm Chicks! So take two seconds and let us know you've dropped by!

Farm Chicks! On The Road

Today was the big travel day! Eight hours on the road! We decided you can see allot of "stuff" in that many hours in the car! We love driving out the Gorge. Here is one of the many Dams we passed. Last year on our way here, we passed many huge semi's carrying one propeller for the many wind turbines being placed to capture the famous Gorge winds. We can't believe how huge one propeller is! As we wound our way a little further into farm country in rural Washington we were a bit surprised and disappointed to see so many wind turbines dotting the farms. Seems like the farmers have had to switch to becoming "wind farmers" to make ends meet. It a good thing for them, and also to create sustainable energy, but a bit sad to see the beauty of the farmland change. We rolled into Spokane just in time to meet Karen's family for dinner at "Chaps" What a fun and funky place. They has a special "Farm Chicks" sign out in front of their restaurant so of course we had to take pics. This is Karen's niece Stephanie, Karen and me (Eileen). The decor was so fun...western with a funky girly twist! We loved the little boys western wear hanging in the entree

and this pink dresser display! Too much fun! Well, time to get to work pricing and finishing all the projects that need a this or a that. Tomorrow will be move in and set up day! Woo Hoo...or Yee Haw...which ever the case may be!

Farm Chicks...Let the Adventure Begin!

The Farm Chicks Antique Show is almost here! We are so excited and anxious to get on the road! But first things first! This show has a one day set up, so it's crucial that we go in with a plan and know what we are doing. So today we staged our base pieces for our booth. We have three booths this year so it's a bit more of a squeeze than last years four booth space. This is our center focal display. We feature Rustics at this show!

And this is the side and back corner Cottage area.

Can't wait to add all the smalls and great rustic pieces we have to sale! Promise to show pics of the finished displays! After finishing the basic set up, we took pictures and got busy loading the truck! See our stack and stacks of bins loaded with goodies! Woo Hoo! Farm Chicks here we come! We'll be on the road for a bit so our next post will be Thursday night!

Oh What A Day! Road Trip Day Two!

Oh what a day we had today! We were a little disappointed when we got up this morning and found it raining. The weather man had promised a better day, but such is common in Oregon, especially at the Coast. But when we are on the hunt, nothing can keep us down for long! Well...almost nothing!
This was our first and best stop of the day! We met Gwen a former antique dealer liquidating her stash as a new business is taking her in a different direction. She was a real sweetheart and Karen and I enjoyed talking to her! Just as we were getting ready to leave, a gust of wind picked up the canvas of her canopy and dumped the rain that had gathered on top, right on my head! Yep...it went right down the neck of my jacket and I was soaked all the way to my knees! Brrrr! So we had to make a trip to McDonald's so I could change clothes. Have you ever tried to change in a stall to tiny you can hardly turn around...without taking off your shoes (ewww, not happening in a community bathroom!). But I managed and we were back on the road.

A quick stop at one of our coastal favorites, The Pirate Pastry Shop! They make the best cookies! My favorite one is her Pie Crust cookies. They remind me of being a kids and watching my Mom make pies!

We decided to hit a few more sales and mosey down the coast. The further South we drove the nicer the weather got so we were glad about that. We stopped in one community and got a real kick out of this house. Apparently they were not to thrilled when their neighbors across the street built their home right in front of their ocean view. So, they built up! Too funny...looking!

We saw this place and had to turn around and check it out. It was the What Not Shop. We didn't buy anything here, but we thought his display was funny, and effective! It got us to stop!

The Oregon Coast is so gorgeous. We had a fun time stopping to take photos and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Karen is a wonderful photographer and it was fun to see her in element!
This view is of the Heceta Lighthouse and Visitors Center. So gorgeous!

One last favorite pic of the day...a wild patch of Forget Me Nots! We are enjoying relaxing in the hotel room tonight and looking forward to an early morning at the Flea Market! We will be picking up a few special items that will be included in our Road Trip Blog Giveaway! Be sure and check in tomorrow for details! Have a great day everyone!

Spring Time's Romantic Re-do

Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about a romantic re-do for your home. The world outside is changing color and bursting with new life. Let a new season begin in your décor as well. Giving my home a romantic re-do by changing just a few elements is something I look forward to every spring. The heavy drapes hung for winter are taken down and replaced with filmy sheers in soft spring colors. The windows are opened to let in the fresh air, and the gauzy curtains sway in the spring breeze. Sparkling sunlight shines on newly hung art art – detailed paintings of roses and etchings of spring birds. Just a few simple changes like these, and my heart already feels lighter.
In the bedrooms, winter quilts are packed away. Beds are draped with pretty pale pinks, robin's egg blues, and shades of white. The colors of budding flowers and new life. Chenille bedspreads and lace tablecloths draped across the foot of the bed or over the back of a boudoir chair, adding romantic appeal. One of the final touches is a lightly scented candle by the bedside, ready to light on a quiet spring evening.

In the dining room, the table is spread with a hand-crocheted tablecloth, each lacy flower intricate and full of spring. Treasured and vintage place settings, covered with pretty spring roses and beautifully etched with time, grace the dining table. An elegant candle in a cut glass holder, it’s simplicity breathes romance.A sprinkling of the right accessories complete the transformation. Slipcovered couches in light fabrics and spring colors are layered with needlepoint pillows stitched with roses and spring flowers. Brightly colored fresh flowers and handmade silk roses are tucked into vases and creamware pitchers.

Even the powder room gets a little romantic re-do with towels trimmed in lace and pretty spring-scented cameo soaps A quick romantic re-do is something that I do every spring. It's so easy to do, and makes my heart feel a flutter of romance.

Join us at Forget Me Not Dreams and the other shops at Make Mine Pink for a themed shopping event...Romantic Re-Do on Friday April 2nd. It's time to let Spring in!

A Touch Of Whimsy

Every now and then, it's fun to take a detour from the everyday by adding playful touches to our routines. It doesn't even need to be something outrageous. Sometimes, adding just a "touch o' whimsy" is all it takes to spice things up. It can be fun to add whimsical touches to our homes too. Having a beautiful home doesn't mean you can't let your playful side shine through. In fact, I think it's just the opposite. If you find something that makes you smile or gives you a feeling of pleasure, you should joyfully include that piece in your décor. It's those special little touches that bring your unique personality into your home and make it truly special. Fanciful touches that make you feel just a twinge of joy are never out of place, even in the most elegant surroundings.

Tucked into my favorite painted and chic china cabinet, sits a beautiful pedestal bowl filled with hand-shaded velvet strawberries. They're bright and pink, and completely unexpected. But they add a touch of whimsy that makes me smile whenever I pass by that corner. My white-painted kitchen shelf displays fine canvas prints of the most beautiful roses, vintage china tea cups and mini creamers. But beside one of the canvases, filled with the most exquisite roses, I've placed a whimsical pink polka dot tea pot. Think it doesn't belong? On the contrary, its presence brings the entire shelf to life.Where could you add a whimsical touch or two to your home? In your most elegant display, or a forgotten nook? Let your imagination play. Faux pastries trimmed with lace on a table set with your grandmother's vintage china. A whimsical wreath made from ribbons and treasures, hung on the wall of a Victorian room. A cupcake cushion placed on a refinished antique French chair. If it brings you the tiniest feeling of delight, it belongs. Celebrate your whimsical side and surround yourself with things that make you smile.

Ahhh, Romantic Roses!

For as long as I can remember, roses have captured a very special piece of my heart. From the gentle scent of the first spring rose, to a delicate hand painted rose on a favorite piece of repurposed furniture, I love to surround myself with their beauty. In recent years, I've noticed that my love of roses is shared by many others. If you pick up a romantic decorating magazine, you'll find rooms filled with the inspiration of roses. In a bedroom, it may be a rose needlepoint cushion, trimmed in the finest silk, adorning the seat of a boudoir chair. Or perhaps a beautifully stitched heirloom pillow, boasting lavish roses and lace, to adorn the bed. In a powder room, a porcelain bowl hand painted with gorgeous roses, might be filled with rose petal potpourri. As I look around my home, I see I have included roses in the décor wherever possible. Vintage tablecloths with colourful roses fill my china cabinet.

Mismatched china pieces decorated with softly faded roses sit on the shelf nearby. Linen pillowcases embroidered with tiny, perfect rosebuds are neatly folded in the linen closet. On my dresser, a pink porcelain rose is tucked into the corner of the vanity tray that once held my mother's prized perfume bottles. The memories of her that the tray brings back are as sweet as the rose itself.Whatever memories roses hold for you, you'll find the perfect rose waiting to capture a piece of your heart. Please join us at Forget Me Not Dreams and Make Mine Pink for shopping with a twist on Friday February 26th 2010 as we present "Romantic Roses"
