Flowers Are A Mother's Day Gift

Don't we all love the gift of flowers for Mother's Day? I remember the simple little bouquets that my sons would tenderly pick and bring to me. Usually wrapped in some kind of wadded up paper, not flowers really , but blooming weeds that we would carefully place into a pretty vase with water. A card would come with the gift. Inside, crayon drawings of the family doing things together with lots of XXXs and OOOs at the bottom. These were the bouquets that I treasured the most. Happy Mother's Day!
Then, with age and more earning power, came the more elaborate flower displays. (Only Eileen can make wonders like this table piece for my youngest son's wedding !) The bouquets came in their own vase, delivered by a stranger sent from the boys who lived far from home. Still the child's message was there, "I love you, Mom". "We miss you, Mom". They would always call to chat and send their love again. The flowers were rotated to different rooms so I could feel their hugs wherever I was in the big, quiet house. Happy Mother's Day!
Following a long cold winter, Mother Nature or a loving God sends a happy greeting and promise of sunshine and warmth to come. The gift of flowers. Colors finally spring from the damp and faded ground, new birth, new life, new joy. Yellow, purple, pinks and red, so beautiful and uplifting. My heart always soars! The dark days of clouds and rain may come to an end. Break out the lighter jackets! Start planting more colors! God is good! Happy Mother's Day!

How can we not think of Mothers when we see beautiful flowers, no matter how simple or elegant? Thank you for sharing your memories.
